The reasoning behind our recommendations
This section outlines the frameworks, data sources, and assumptions that inform Giving Impact’s views. It is intended to make the underlying reasoning visible so donors can understand, question, and build on it.
Foundational questions
- What outcomes are we trying to improve?
- Which interventions have credible evidence of effectiveness?
- How does cost‑effectiveness compare across options?
- What are the key uncertainties and risks?
How analysis is used
Analysis does not produce certainty. It narrows the field, highlights trade‑offs, and surfaces opportunities where the case for impact appears stronger than the alternatives. Donors remain responsible for their own decisions, but they do not need to make them in the dark.
Source and Limitations in the data
The data used in this analysis comes from government‑supplied sources. In some cases, the information is several years old; where possible, the year of each dataset is shown.
Most datasets included an ABN for each charity. In the majority of cases, ABNs matched cleanly across sources. However, there were instances where the ABN did not align between datasets. When an ABN mismatch occurred and could not be resolved confidently, those records were excluded to maintain data quality.
